Newgale Beach

We're peeler, a planet friendly, UK based surf brand who protect the planet by making and selling eco-friendly surf gear.

How it all began...

One day, at the end of 2008 Andy & George (co-founders of peeler) decided it was about time for a UK surf brand to be born who were super eco-friendly. It took about 4 weeks to come up with the name 'peeler'! In case you don't know, peeler's another term for a wave, we think the name peeler says it all - waves, one of the most natural and amazing forces on the planet!

Slowly after the name peeler was decided we got our resources together and found loads of really great eco-friendly surf products from brands all over Europe. The peeler brand kicked off tremendously and soon became a well known name in the surf world for selling eco-friendly surf gear.

Just selling eco-friendly surf gear wasn't enough...

A year later, In late 2009 we decided it was high time to make our own surf gear. The peeler tshirt was born, 100% organic and screen printed using water based inks. Later that year we also created hoodies and the first innovative peeler product The 'Re-knit' Beanie! A beanie made from re-cycled wool. The re-knit beanie has proven very popular and we love it when Autumn arrives so that we can bring them back into the warehouse.

With the peeler clothing range in full swing, so what was next?

Whilst we were super pleased with the clothing range we still wanted more surf gear! So, Wax Sax were born. Wax Sax are handy little sacks (made from receycled, unwanted tshirts) to keep your wax all in one place, rather than finding a random hairy piece at the back of your surf wagon. Soon after Wax Sax arrived we soon realised there was no decent British natural surf wax on the market, so we got in the lab (kitchen) and cooked up our own special recipe with the help of our friend Tiggy, who is a soap maker.

The first set of wax was a bit buttery, so we got back to the lab and developed it some more and whilst developing the formula we decided to revolutionise the shape of wax by creating a 5 finger bar. Our wax went out for testing all over the UK, from the cold waters of Scotland to the sunny beaches in Cornwall. The reviews came back and we're glad to say they were all positive! The next tricky bit was coming up with the name, so what better way than to thank our soap making friend than to call it Tiggy Wax.

So, that's it so far, we're still a small surf brand but being small means we can move quickly and keep coming up with lots of eco-friendly surf products. Watch out next year (2011) for a revolutionary board bag!
