The Manchester

Lakai Manchester

This is the latest pair of recycled trainers from Lakai ‘The Manchester’.

Lakai have chosen to do their part for the planet by using excess shoe materials that would otherwise be thrown away to make selected trainers each season.

These trainers feature soles comprised of new gum rubber mixed with regrind rubber waste, reducing new material by up to 40%.

Age of stupid

The Age of Stupid: final trailer Feb 2009, (bleeped) from Age of Stupid on Vimeo.

The Age of Stupid is a 90-minute film about climate change, set in the future, which will have its world premiere in London on March 15th 2009 and then be released in UK cinemas on March 20th 2009, followed by other countries.

Oscar-nominated Pete Postlethwaite (In The Name of the Father, Brassed Off) stars as a man living alone in the devasted world of 2055, looking back at “archive” footage from 2007 and asking: why didn’t we stop climate change when we had the chance?

Plastic's Not Fantastic

An organisation called Plastic’s Not Fantastic has been setup to make the world realise that plastic sticks around forever and is a huge problem.

Please check out the site, it helps each other out by sharing tips & advice on how to AVOID buying plastic. Each one of us does count & the way we spend OUR MONEY will make a difference. Remember a lot of things are packaged in plastic to trick you into spending more money than you need to (see attachement)

Here’s what PNF have to say;

“Plastic’s not fantastic, (or Pnf! As I like to call it) is just me and a few of my friends, (Michelle, Jonny etc) who give a monkeys about the amount of toxic stuff we chuck, the waste we produce and the amount of energy and resources we consume.

Is there any need to shrink wrap fruit?

100% of the plastic we have ever produced is still around the majority of it in the ocean.

Perhaps by spreading the word a few others will start looking at their own habits.”

All BSC members get 10% discount off their total order at Peeler, please email hello@peelersurf.co.uk to find out more.

We’ll be joining BSC on there adventures soon, so watch this space. For now here’s what BSC have to say:

“For most of us city-dwellers, it’s easy to feel out of touch with what’s going on. Most surfing clubs are situated on the coast and keeping in touch is hard. This club is an opportunity to meet fellow surfers living in your own backyard.

If you want to get involved, please join. Membership is £10.50 (online) or £10.00 (cash/cheque), which allows us to cover most of the running costs.”

Quiksilver Winner!

Quiksilver Pro Winner

KIRRA, Australia (Wednesday, March 11, 2009) – Joel Parkinson (AUS), 27, has won the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast presented by LG Mobile, defeating fellow finalist Adriano de Souza (BRA), 22, in solid six-to-eight foot (3 metre) surf at Kirra.

After a 12-year hiatus, today’s action brought the ASP World Tour back to Kirra for the Finals of the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast. Whilst it was not classic Kirra, the challenging conditions at the historic pointbreak offered churning barrels with massive scoring potential.

Parkinson, winner of the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast in 2002, was fearless from the outset in the hard-fought Final, collecting an excellent 8.83 out of a possible 10 on his opening ride, breaking his board in the process.

The hometown favorite would return to the lineup to collect a bevy of high scores, including a 7.50 and an 8.17, before nailing his second perfect 10 of the day, pushing his heat total to an unsurpassable 18.84 out of a possible 20.

Parkinson now sits atop the ASP World Tour ratings, in excellent position for his 2009 campaign for the ASP World Title.
