It's good to wipeout

total-wipeout-sale

It’s good to wipe out. Wiping out teaches us to get back on our boards and get better so that we don’t do it in the future, even though we will…

Here at peeler towers we’re wiping out. Wiping out our old products that is. We’re getting rid of all our old and current stock to make way for our new beginning.

A new beginning…

We’re giving birth to a new peeler website soon, don’t worry, there’s still going to be a load of amazing planet friendly surf gear available, we’re just re-positioning the peeler brand a little.

Amongst our new range of products will be:

The star of the show – Tiggy Wax, our recently developed natural surf wax.

New tshirts and hoodies – organic of-course.

A fresh batch of Wax Sax, they’re such handy little sacks and are really popular.

All this and more will be available on the peeler website.

So, to make way for our new beginning click here and take advantage of our 50% Total Wipeout Sale and grab a planet friendly bargain.

Protest Dry Feet!

Protest Dry Feet is a surf movie about experiencing life as a surfer, about the forces that pull you back to the shore and about the desire to stay forever on the ocean. This surf movie is our interpretation of the dedication needed to be a surfer.

Tiggy Wax update

Tiggy-Wax-FON

Our planet friendly Surf Wax is almost ready for mass consumption for all you lovely people.

We’ve had several surfers testing the wax, in particular The Freaks of Nature have tested it out.

The Freaks of Nature are a group of surfers, who live and breathe surfing, design and all that’s related.

The guys from Freaks of Nature took our Tiggy Wax to Portugal and here’s what they thought:

waxy review:

Long has the surfing world been dominated by a small number of surf wax companies with a traditionally shaped wax block. As we turn a new corner in surfing culture a fresh look at the wax that sticks us to our boards has been developed by the Peeler Surf guys, called Tiggy Wax.

With its modern concept and shape that can only be described as Kit-Kat like, the wax bars are designed to snap into fingers. This is a unique concept which above everything else enables the user to slip the finger in the arm of the wetsuit in order to use in the water. If wiping out is your prime move, then an extra layer of wax may be the answer to your problems.

This idea of the wax block being snapped apart leaves a few problems. If like me, you enjoy aggressively applying the wax to your board then Tiggy Wax kicks up a problem, Its shape makes this difficult. Bigger is sometimes better, kitkat chunky maybe? As for doing its job, we had no complaints, it’s sticky enough to keep every surfer happy. The smell is also delicious!

Tiggy Wax can definitely compete with the big guns in the waxy world of surfboard stick, however I feel the main dilemma lies with getting the brand into the hands or gloves of the surfers. It’s a nice innovative idea which i think will work very well alongside your standard block of wax.

Dutch surfboard with cork rails

Yerko

A while ago we sent out a peeler re-knit beanie to Yerko in the Netherlands.

Yerko, got in touch with not only a nice compliment about our re-knit beanies but a really interesting note about a surfboard he’s made (pictured above).

“The hat is great, thanks again. Here are some pictures of me and the hat. In the pictures is a hollow wooden surfboard I made myself, I also used cork on the rails and because of that found it a nice touch to use a cork deckgrip as well.”

What a great idea, cork’s a sustainable wood and super planet friendly! Brill!

Urgent! Lets get rid of Marine Litter

SAS

Volumes of marine litter are dramatically increasing year after year. Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) has successful marine litter campaigns targeting manufacturers, mobilising large-scale grass roots direct action and increasing public awareness on this ever-worsening problem.

However, with each new high tide comes a new marine litter line impacting on our beloved beaches and surf spots.

Current anti-litter legislation such as The Environmental Protection Act 1990, MARPOL and the Port Waste Reception Facilities regulations are not providing the levels of protection needed for the coastline.

We urge you to implement a National Marine Litter Strategy to combat this worsening issue and help protect our coastlines.

Spring clean

springClean

We decided it was time for a spring clean on the peeler website.

So, we’ve tweaked the design and functionality a little to make life easier.

For example, in the top right corner of the website (next to the search bar) there’s a clever little widget that adds up items from your basket as you shop.

It’s good to dust off every once in a while and polish a few areas (there’s a joke there, which would pop up if we were in a ‘Carry On’ film).

Hope you like the spring clean, let us know if you would like to see anything else on the website email hello@peelersurf.co.uk

Paddleboarding 21 Miles across the Channel for SAS

Claire Blacklock, Matt Argyle, Simon Bassett paddleboarding for SAS

Three of Britain’s best stand up paddleboarders met at West Wittering windsurf club this Friday, 29th January to launch the Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) 2010 Challenge, a Guinness World Record™ breaking attempt to cross the English Channel in June this year that also aims to raise at least £10,000 for SAS’s campaigns and celebrate the organisation’s 20th anniversary.

Matt Argyle (Chairman of the British Stand Up Paddle Association (BSUPA) and ranked 2nd in the UK for stand up paddleboarding), Claire Blacklock (UK women’s stand up paddleboard champion) and Simon Bassett (BSUPA head coach) will be joined in June by longboarding champion Elliot Dudley and UK stand up paddleboarding champion Jock Patterson for the crossing attempt, which could see them break a Guinness World Record™ along the way.

In the first event of its kind, the paddleboarders will set off from Dover and aim to arrive in Calais around five hours later, having completed the crossing of the world’s busiest shipping lane. The event will be taking place between 18th – 25th of June, with the paddlers waiting for the best tide and weather conditions in which to make the 21mile crossing. If the paddlers are successful they will be the first stand up paddleboard team to have ever crossed the English Channel, and could potentially break the record for the fastest paddleboard crossing as well.

The Guinness World Record™ for crossing the English Channel by paddleboard currently stands at five hours and nine minutes, and was set by US paddler Michael O’Shaughnessy in 2006. The event has been put together by SAS with the support of BSUPA, and the paddlers aim to raise at least £10,000 in sponsorship money to support SAS’s campaigns to protect surfers and waveriders, waves and beaches around the UK. If you would like sponsor the 2010 Challenge please go to www.justgiving.com/2010challenge and make a donation. You can also follow the paddlers’ training blog on
www.supglobal.com.

SAS Director Hugo Tagholm says, “We are delighted to have such a fantastic team of Britain’s best stand up paddleboard talent to make this world record attempt. The event will raise vital funds and awareness for our ongoing campaigns protecting the UK’s oceans, beaches and coastlines for everyone to enjoy. It’s also a great way to celebrate 20 years of successful SAS campaigning!”

Chairman of BSUPA Matt Argyle says, “This is a fantastic opportunity for BSUPA and stand up paddlers to raise money for SAS, an organisation that has made a demonstrable difference to the quality of the environment that all water sports enthusiasts rely on. All of the paddlers will be training hard take on this challenge and we hope to raise as much money as possible. “
