Chicks with SticksBeing a big part of the very first Chicks with Sticks event was something special indeed. With a focus on surf girls and an even bigger focus on being green, the event was well received by everyone who came along.

By 11am we were one of the stands amongst all the others displaying our eco wares and whilst talking to visitors to Chicks with Sticks we got to know some great organisations such as the Soul Surfers Foundation who give opportunities for the children and youth in poor coastal communities around the world. We also met the peeps from Surfer Girl mag and Chilled Turtle who also got involved with Chicks with Sticks.

Throughout the day there were various things happening such as an amazing art competition, the peeler team attempting to master the Indo board, some rather lovely cake tasting, pilates by Amy and not to mention creative skin art from Sarah, take a look at our temporary tattoos (in the photo montage below).

The Chicks with Sticks girls managed to pull off a great day, we think it was down to their promotional skills… Dressing up as fairies and cave girls to entice the people of Newquay to take part.

Into the night…

The event went on into the evening which was a feast for the ears and eyes – slide shows, surf films, music from ‘October’ and of course the grand finale of the day ‘The Surfer Boy Auction’, this is when the girls went extremely wild! With no reserves and all the money going to charity the auction was a great success and raised plenty of cash for Pants and The Soul Surfers foundation.

Thanks go to: Natalie, Kate, Amy, Chris Kevern – Kevern Photography and everyone who came along and took part including the boys who got auctioned off and now no-one knows their whereabouts…

Quiksilver Winner!

Quiksilver Pro Winner

KIRRA, Australia (Wednesday, March 11, 2009) – Joel Parkinson (AUS), 27, has won the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast presented by LG Mobile, defeating fellow finalist Adriano de Souza (BRA), 22, in solid six-to-eight foot (3 metre) surf at Kirra.

After a 12-year hiatus, today’s action brought the ASP World Tour back to Kirra for the Finals of the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast. Whilst it was not classic Kirra, the challenging conditions at the historic pointbreak offered churning barrels with massive scoring potential.

Parkinson, winner of the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast in 2002, was fearless from the outset in the hard-fought Final, collecting an excellent 8.83 out of a possible 10 on his opening ride, breaking his board in the process.

The hometown favorite would return to the lineup to collect a bevy of high scores, including a 7.50 and an 8.17, before nailing his second perfect 10 of the day, pushing his heat total to an unsurpassable 18.84 out of a possible 20.

Parkinson now sits atop the ASP World Tour ratings, in excellent position for his 2009 campaign for the ASP World Title.
